Powwow Party

This is a little late but I wanted to put up something about my wonderful Powwow experience. Powwow is a celebration and competition involving the Native American cultures. There's singing, drumming, and of course dancing. This year they decided to do an exhibition and let non-natives, such as myself :), learn the Iroquois Smoke dance and Navajo Hoop dancing. Unfortunately I didn't have anyone there watching me to take pictures so I don't have any of me actually dancing. But here are a few before and afters. Above is our group practicing right before we went on stage. This is me with Eva Bighorse, who was our instructor. She's half Iroquois and half Navajo. She was also Head Lady at our Powwow. She's amazing and I learned so much from her.
And we decided to have our own little "hoopers" reunion this last week, so here is a picture of a few of us. Shauny Talk, Eva Bighorse, Stephen Freeman, Ben who's last name I don't know, Macy Heinze, Patrice Atine, Me, and Tyrone Whitehorse. And let me tell you, we made us some pretty awesome fry bread thanks to Shauny's teaching. So multi-talented :)
Powwow was a great experience. I learned so much and I can't wait to do it again next year!!
